Enough is Enough.

“Enough is Enough!” This is what Representative Mehaffie posted on his campaign Facebook page (click here) on May 29, 2020, referring to the ‘bold face lies’ being told about him by a primary opponent. The post included an image showing a letter sent by  his attorney to his opponent calling for them to stop lying and intentionally trying to defame him.

Now in the general election cycle, it appears Representative Mehaffie is playing by a different set of rules.

To the residents of the 106th District. I’m running for State Representative because I understand the challenges and real life struggles working families face.  My opponent has been trying to manipulate information about me in an effort to make you believe I’m unworthy of being your Representative. This summer, he used a poll and exploited the fact that I am a sexual assault survivor and have admitted to having battled depression in the past, simply to test messaging in an effort that only served for his own political gain. That didn’t work for him, so now he’s making false statements about my finances. As a candidate and as your State Representative, I’ll always be transparent with you.

I’m sharing the real story, with documentation to back it up, because you deserve the truth.

Setting the Record Straight.

Claim #1

Taken to court for failing to pay thousands of dollars in taxes.

Here's the truth.

My taxes were paid.

I was not taken to court for not paying taxes; as a self employed business owner, I paid my estimated taxes on time and have documentation & copies of checks showing it. The State did not correctly apply the payments to my account as it was the first year I filed solo after my divorce. They filed a lien despite having documentation of the payments- which is a result of bureaucracy and one department not talking to the other.

Claim #2

Faced foreclosure as a result of not paying her mortgage.

Here's the truth.

My home lost nearly $100,000 in value during the recession and would not sell after 2.5 years of attempting to short sale.

I did not face having my home foreclosed on because of not paying my mortgage. My home in Harrisburg lost more than half of its value and could not sell because the appraised value was so low. After several attempted sales failed, the bank agreed there was no other option and had me do a deed in lieu, as they did with hundreds of thousands of other homeowners during the housing crisis. It was never because of negligence to pay my mortgage and I have never been delinquent on my mortgage payments. With my background as a business banker even in the hardest times for families like mine and yours I always maintained financial responsibility.

Claim #3

Voted to raise school district property taxes
on hard working families and seniors.

Here's the truth.

Any resident in Derry Township knows our school taxes have increased. I’m a taxpayer myself, so it impacts me directly. The tax increases I voted for in 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years were already planned for prior to my being elected as a result of Full Day Kindergarten being  approved in 2017. The School Board discussed this at length at their June 12, 2017 meeting that a tax increase of at least 2% would be required for the next two years. For the 2019/2020 budget, we were able to lower the estimated increase significantly. This year, we have worked hard during the pandemic to identify where money could be saved and were able to avoid an increase, especially when it would not be bringing new services, like Full Day Kindergarten, to our community.  Additionally I am proud to have worked to help our taxpayers further by ensuring that the Senior Tax Rebate Program was advertised to tax payers in need by the Township when they raised taxes in 2018.

Claim #4

Campaign is bankrolled by a California mega-donor who made money censoring information and hiding social media posts

Here's the truth.

I am proud to have received contributions from thousands of individuals and in this past week our average contribution was only $14.79. The reason Tom Mehaffie wants you to believe that one person could be responsible for my entire campaign fundraising is because in his mind that is how campaigns are run. His filings routinely show that he receives money from remarkably few donors and that those he has, routinely donate beyond the means of the average voter. Maybe it is because Tom Mehaffie is desperate, or maybe it is because in his mind politicians like him are always bought, but the truth is that we are a people powered campaign that is built on individuals who are motivated to change politics as usual and elect leaders like them. If you want further proof of that I encourage you to look at both of our soon to be filed Oct. 19th fundraising reports. I believe the story will tell itself.

Furthermore, Representative Mehaffie wants to claim I’m bankrolled by someone accused of hiding social media posts….but his campaign Facebook page is FULL of censorship and hiding of comments on dozens of posts.
